After working without a collective agreement since Dec 2017, Fairmont Chateau Laurier front desk staff, maintenance, housekeeping, kitchen, servers, all hospitality and customer service have voted 94% in favour of a strike mandate [Source]. On May 4th, IWW-GDC Local 6 joined a co-ordinated info-picket in solidarity with hotel workers and the right to strike. From 10am to 12pm, Local 6 leafleted everyone entering or leaving the hotel with information on the hotel worker’s demands for reasonable workloads and a fair gratuity system. We encourage everyone to contact Fairmont management and let’em know that hotel workers deserve respect.
All workers should know that our collective refusal of work is our greatest strength as a class. We congratulate our fellow workers at Fairmont Chateau Laurier for achieving such a strong strike mandate. Should the strike begin, we’ll be back in greater numbers, ready to support workers and direct action against predatory bosses.
